Paste a paragraph and choose a width above.

Justify Text wraps a paragraph to a chosen width and then distributes the leftover spaces between words so both edges line up. It is the plain-text version of a justified column: the total width stays fixed, the gaps absorb the difference, and the last line is left short unless you ask for it to be stretched too. The distribution is deterministic rather than typographic - the remainder is handed out one space at a time from the left - so the same paragraph always produces the same output. Lines containing a single word are never stretched, because turning one word into a spaced-out row is not justification. Width is measured in code points, and the result assumes a monospace face; in a proportional font the edges will still look uneven even though the character counts match. Long words are handled by choice: leave them intact on their own line, or hard-break them so the width is exact. It is the tool for producing a justified plain-text block, testing how a paragraph behaves in a fixed-width field, and preparing text for a monospace display. Because the extra spaces are distributed from the left, a line with a remainder of two puts the wider gaps near its beginning rather than spreading the difference evenly across every gap.

How to use Justify Text

  1. Paste the paragraph and set the width.
  2. Choose whether to justify the last line and whether to break long words.
  3. Copy the justified text or clear to start over.

What you get

  • The wrapped text with spaces distributed between words on every non-final line.
  • The number of output lines.
  • A short final line unless you choose to justify it as well.

When to use Justify Text

  • Produce a justified plain-text block for a monospace display.
  • Test how a paragraph reads when both edges are forced to a fixed width.
  • Prepare a fixed-width handout where the last line should stay short.

Frequently asked questions about Justify Text

Why do the edges still look uneven in my font?

Justification counts characters, not rendered widths. It lines up in a monospace face; a proportional font gives each character a different width.

Is the last line justified?

By default it is left short, which is the usual convention. Enable the option to stretch it to the full width as well.

What happens to a very long word?

It overflows on its own line unless hard-breaking is enabled. Single-word lines are never stretched, so they remain readable.

Is my text uploaded?

No. Justification runs in your browser; nothing is sent to a server or stored.
