Base64 to Image
Decode a data URL or raw Base64 string back into a verified PNG, JPEG, WebP, or GIF image.
Browser onlyYour data never leaves this device.
Decoding runs entirely in your browser. The pasted text and the decoded bytes are never uploaded, stored, or logged.
Details: Privacy policy
Input
Up to 15 MB of decoded image data, checked from the string length before decoding. Only PNG, JPEG, WebP, and GIF are accepted; SVG, HTML, and other markup are refused by name.
Nothing is rendered as markup: the decoded bytes are sniffed for their magic bytes, typed from that result, and shown through a blob URL in an img element. Everything stays in this browser.
Result
No Base64 yet.
Paste a data URL or raw Base64 string, then decode it into a previewable image.
Base64 to Image decodes a data URL or a raw Base64 string and shows the picture inside it. The decoded bytes are identified by their own signatures before anything appears, so markup is refused rather than rendered, a data URL that misnames its content is flagged instead of trusted, and the 15 MB and 40-megapixel ceilings are enforced before a decoder runs. PNG, JPEG, WebP and GIF are the accepted outputs, and when the bytes disagree with the declared type the detected type is named in the error.
Key facts
- Input
- Base64 string or data URL
- Output
- PNG, JPEG, WebP or GIF file
- Limits
- Up to 15 MB of decoded data and up to 40 megapixels, both checked before any image decoder allocates memory.
- Processing
- In your browser — nothing is uploaded
- Sign-up
- Not required
- Cost
- Free
Limits above are read from the same code that enforces them; formats are the ones the tool accepts and produces.
How to use Base64 to Image
- Paste a data URL or the raw Base64 string into the input.
- Decode it to see the verified type, dimensions, and byte size.
- Download the image file, or copy its details.
What you get
- The decoded image as a downloadable PNG, JPEG, WebP or GIF in the type its bytes actually declare.
- The detected type, pixel dimensions and byte size, reported with the downloaded filename.
- A refusal of SVG and other markup, and a reported mismatch when a data URL declares a type its bytes do not match.
When to use Base64 to Image
- Recover an icon or logo that arrived pasted as a data URL in a chat message, ticket, or document.
- Check what an API actually returned when a response carries an image as a Base64 string.
- Save a small embedded image from a configuration file back to a real .png or .webp file.

Frequently asked questions about Base64 to Image
Is it safe to paste a Base64 image into this tool?
The string is decoded in your browser and never sent anywhere. Markup such as SVG or HTML is refused before display, the preview is an img element built from a blob URL, and no code from the decoded data is ever executed.
What happens when the data URL declares the wrong image type?
The bytes win. The tool reads the magic bytes, types the preview and download from that result, and warns that the declared type disagreed — for example, a data URL labelled image/png whose bytes are actually a JPEG.
Can I decode an SVG data URL with this tool?
No. SVG is markup that can carry scripts and external references, so it is refused by name. This tool decodes raster PNG, JPEG, WebP, and GIF bytes only; open SVG files in a vector editor instead.
Why was my Base64 image rejected for exceeding the megapixel cap?
The 40-megapixel ceiling protects your browser from a small file that expands into hundreds of megabytes of pixels. Resize the image below the cap, re-encode it, and decode the smaller version here.
