Password Generator creates random passwords and passphrases inside the browser using the Web Crypto API. Rejection sampling is used instead of a simple modulo, so every character in the selected pool has the same chance of appearing; that detail matters more than adding another symbol set. The password mode guarantees at least one character from each enabled group, which avoids the common rejection when a site demands a digit without weakening the rest of the string. The passphrase mode joins words from a small built-in list, and the page states that list's exact size instead of implying a larger dictionary. Every result shows an entropy estimate and a plain strength band, with the formula named rather than hidden. Nothing is transmitted, nothing is stored, and the page never claims a password is unbreakable: it gives you a unique string and tells you to keep it in a password manager.

How to use Password Generator

  1. Choose password or passphrase mode.
  2. Set the length or word count and the character options.
  3. Press Generate, then copy or download the value.

What you get

  • One password of 8–128 characters, or a passphrase of 3–12 words.
  • An entropy estimate in bits with the formula it used.
  • A strength band and a reminder to store the value in a password manager.

When to use Password Generator

  • Create a unique password for a new account without reusing an old one.
  • Generate a passphrase you can type on a device without a clipboard.
  • Produce a temporary credential for a test environment.
  • Replace a short password with a longer one while keeping the same character rules.

Frequently asked questions about Password Generator

Is the generated password cryptographically secure?

The characters come from crypto.getRandomValues with rejection sampling, so the selection is uniform. Security also depends on keeping the password unique and storing it safely.

How is the entropy number calculated?

For passwords it is length multiplied by log2 of the pool size. For passphrases it is word count multiplied by log2 of the built-in list size shown on the page.

Why does the password always include every selected character type?

One character from each enabled group is placed first, the rest are drawn from the combined pool, and the result is shuffled. That satisfies common composition rules without leaving a predictable pattern.

Does the passphrase use a large dictionary?

No. It uses a small built-in list, and the page states its exact size. That is why the default is seven words and why the entropy figure is lower than a large-dictionary passphrase of the same length.
